Do I need to wear anything special for a Salt Therapy session?
No special clothing is required for salt therapy; however we do provide plastic shoe covers to protect your shoes from the salt crystals on the ground.
Please remember that the fine salt particles can appear like dust on your clothing. On dark clothes the salt will show more. We generally recommend that you don’t wear “good clothes”. Further, if the session is for treatment of the skin you may wish to wear shorts/vest/tshirt for maximum exposure.

Can I bring water into the room?
Food and beverages are not permitted in the treatment room. Feel free to use the facilities within the Salt Studio prior to or after your session.

What do I do during the Salt therapy session?
The Salt Studo is designed to help you leave your worries behind muted colour therapy lighting, peaceful music, and comfortable chairs with fresh blankets provided. We encourage this quiet time to be used for relaxation or meditation. This will ensure a quality experience for all in attendance.

What can I expect during the Salt therapy session?
A dry throat is sometimes experienced; this is a normal effect of the dry aerosol created by the salt generator. This aerosol consists of micron sized salt particles which serve to break up mucus and have anti-inflammatory properties.

What time should I arrive for my salt therapy session?
If you haven’t visited before, it is recommended that you arrive fifteen minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. This will give you time to fill out any paperwork as well as visit the restroom, in order to ensure an uninterrupted session in the Salt Studio. For subsequent sessions, please make sure you arrive in good time for the start of the appointment to avoid disruption to a session. Payments for sessions can be made prior your session.

Are there side effects?
Rarely. There are some sensitive individuals for whom salt therapy may produce a few side effects like slight skin irritation or red patches that disappear after a few sessions. Some patients report a mild throat tickle, which can be easily treated by gargling with hot water. If you have a lot of mucus, it is not uncommon to experience increased coughing after a treatment. This is the body’s way of responding to the salt treatment by eliminating the accumulated mucus.

Why is halotherapy more effective than moist salt therapy?
Dry sodium chloride aerosol has a considerable level of negative charge of the particles. The inner surfaces of airways have a slight positive charge. Negatively charged particles of dry sodium chloride aerosol move in the lumen of the respiratory tract and settle more intensively compared to neutral particles. In addition, the negative charge increases aerosol stability. Thus dry aerosol action is much more effective than one that is moist. Additionally, dry salt therapy can be measured and the dosages can be regulated weathers moist salt therapy doesn’t offer that option.

Is the Cave hot like a sauna?
The Cave is very carefully temperature controlled to maintain the best environment for the salt. The temperature is maintained between 68 and 70 degrees, so if you tend to run cold, you may want to consider dressing a bit warmer. We offer blankets for extra warmth and comfort.

Is there a risk of cross infection from other clients in the Salt Studio?
The Salt Studio will only ever be available for one private booking at a time. No sessions will be shared. A stable hypoallergenic, hypo-bacterial environment is maintained in the treatment room. At the end of each session the air is completely vented for 15 minutes and replaced with fresh air for the next session. All surfaces are cleaned after each session.

Why is it so relaxing in our Salt Studio?
As the specialist device grinds the pharmaceutical salt, it imparts a negative charge to the salt particles creating negative ions. Negative ions are exceedingly beneficial and are associated with improvements in mood and physical health.

Researchers at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow discovered that negative ions are able to help protect the body from induced physical stress.

British researchers at the Centre for Sport and Exercise Sciences found negative ions significantly improved all physiological states, particularly during rest.
